At least REST (or ROA) is about programming the web.
All these days (i.e. until I did not know REST), I felt the "web applications" are ill conceived, and a force-fit on a document fetching protocol. But, RESTful proposition has changed my thinking.
What changed my thinking, just the thought that anything i.e. not just the document, an algorithm can be viewed as a resource, changed the whole notion!
